Iconic Plaza Hotel is seeking passionate, hardworking Commis Chefs to join our culinary team. This role supports the preparation, cooking, and presentation of high‑quality dishes while maintaining the highest standards of hygiene, organization, and teamwork. Ideal candidates are eager to learn, disciplined, and committed to delivering exceptional dining experiences.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Food Preparation — Assist in basic food prep including chopping, peeling, marinating, portioning, and mise en place.
• Cooking Support — Support Demi Chefs and Chef de Parties in cooking and plating dishes according to recipes and presentation standards.
• Station Management — Maintain cleanliness and readiness of assigned stations; restock ingredients and tools as needed.
• Quality Control — Ensure food freshness, proper storage, and adherence to portion control guidelines.
• Hygiene and Safety — Follow HACCP standards, kitchen hygiene procedures, and safe handling of equipment and ingredients.
• Inventory Assistance — Help receive deliveries, rotate stock, and report shortages or quality issues.
• Team Collaboration — Work closely with the culinary team to ensure smooth service during peak hours.
• Cleaning Duties — Clean workstations, equipment, and utensils before, during, and after service.

Requirements

• Education — Certificate or diploma in culinary arts or food production preferred.
• Experience — 6 months to 1 year in a professional kitchen; hotel experience is an advantage.
• Skills — Basic knife skills, understanding of cooking methods, and ability to follow recipes.
• Attributes — Eager to learn, disciplined, detail oriented, and able to work under pressure.
• Physical — Able to stand for long periods and lift up to 20–25 kg safely.
• Availability — Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
• Legal — Right to work in Kenya and ability to pass background checks.
