Iconic Plaza Hotel is recruiting skilled and customer‑focused Baristas to join our Food & Beverage team. This role crafts exceptional coffee and beverage experiences, supports café and restaurant service, and helps create warm, memorable moments for guests and colleagues.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Beverage Preparation — Prepare espresso‑based drinks, brewed coffee, tea, and specialty beverages to recipe and presentation standards.
  • Equipment Operation and Maintenance — Operate espresso machines, grinders, and other café equipment; perform daily cleaning and basic maintenance.
  • Customer Service — Greet guests warmly, take orders, make recommendations, and ensure timely, friendly service.
  • Quality Control — Monitor beverage quality, taste, temperature, and presentation; adjust recipes and techniques as needed.
  • Point of Sale and Cash Handling — Process orders using the POS system, handle payments, and balance cash at shift end.
  • Stock and Inventory — Replenish supplies, rotate stock, and report low inventory to supervisors.
  • Hygiene and Safety — Maintain a clean, organized workstation; follow food safety, hygiene, and allergen procedures.
  • Teamwork and Communication — Coordinate with kitchen, service, and events teams to support smooth operations during peak periods.
  • Training and Development — Mentor junior staff and participate in ongoing training on coffee techniques and product knowledge.

Requirements

  • Experience — Minimum 1 year as a barista or in a café/hospitality role; hotel F&B experience is an advantage.
  • Skills — Strong espresso extraction and milk‑texturing skills; knowledge of coffee origins and brewing methods; familiarity with POS systems.
  • Education — Minimum KCSE or equivalent; barista certification or coffee training preferred.
  • Personal Attributes — Friendly, attentive, detail oriented, and able to work under pressure.
  • Physical — Able to stand for long periods and lift up to 20 kg when restocking.
  • Availability — Willingness to work shifts, early mornings, weekends, and public holidays.
  • Language — Proficiency in English; additional languages are an asset.
  • Legal — Right to work in Kenya and ability to pass background checks.
