Iconic Plaza Hotel is recruiting dependable, hardworking Kitchen Stewards to join our culinary operations team. This role ensures kitchen cleanliness, supports food preparation logistics, and helps maintain a safe, efficient back‑of‑house environment that enables our chefs and service teams to deliver outstanding dining experiences.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Dishwashing and Cleaning — Operate dishwashing equipment; wash, sanitize, and store cookware, utensils, and serviceware.
  • Kitchen Housekeeping — Clean and sanitize kitchen surfaces, floors, drains, and storage areas; empty bins and manage waste disposal.
  • Equipment Care — Maintain and perform basic cleaning of kitchen equipment; report faults and coordinate minor maintenance with engineering.
  • Stock Handling — Receive and unpack deliveries; rotate and store dry goods, chilled and frozen items according to FIFO and hygiene standards.
  • Support Food Prep — Assist chefs with basic prep tasks (peeling, washing, portioning) as directed and transport items between kitchen stations.
  • Health and Safety Compliance — Follow food safety, hygiene, and sanitation procedures; wear required PPE and adhere to HACCP guidelines.
  • Team Coordination — Communicate with chefs, stewards supervisor, and housekeeping to ensure smooth service during peak periods.
  • Lost and Found and Inventory — Help maintain inventory records for cleaning supplies and report shortages promptly.

Requirements

  • Education — Minimum KCSE or equivalent; basic literacy and numeracy.
  • Experience — Prior experience in a kitchen, stewarding, or hospitality environment preferred but not required.
  • Skills — Knowledge of basic cleaning chemicals and safe handling; ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
  • Physical — Able to stand for long periods, lift up to 25 kg safely, and work in hot, fast‑paced conditions.
  • Attributes — Reliable, punctual, detail oriented, discreet, and able to maintain composure under pressure.
  • Availability — Willingness to work shifts, early mornings, evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
  • Legal — Right to work in Kenya and ability to pass background checks.
  • Certifications — Food safety or basic hygiene training is an advantage.
