Job Summary

Zapata Je Mexican Restaurant is looking for a talented and passionate Junior Sous Chef to join our pre-opening team ahead of our grand launch at J1 Beach, Dubai in July 2025. This role is perfect for an ambitious culinary professional with pre-opening experience who is eager to contribute to menu development, kitchen operations, and the creation of authentic Mexican flavors. The Junior Sous Chef will support the Head Chef in managing kitchen efficiency, ensuring high-quality food preparation, and maintaining an organized and dynamic workspace.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in pre-opening kitchen setup, including workflow organization and inventory preparation.
  • Support menu development, contributing to authentic Mexican dishes and creative plating techniques.
  • Supervise kitchen staff, ensuring efficiency, consistency, and quality standards.
  • Oversee food preparation, cooking techniques, and proper ingredient handling.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene regulations, and kitchen cleanliness.
  • Monitor kitchen stock levels and assist in inventory control and supplier coordination.
  • Collaborate with the Head Chef and management on cost control, portion sizing, and menu refinement.
  • Maintain a positive and high-energy kitchen atmosphere, training and mentoring junior chefs.
  • Support pre-launch events, promotional tastings, and Mexican culinary showcases.

Requirements

  • Previous experience as a Junior Sous Chef or in a similar role.
  • Pre-opening experience in setting up kitchen operations is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of Mexican cuisine, traditional recipes, and flavor profiles.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and team management skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-energy kitchen environment.
  • Knowledge of food safety regulations, inventory management, and kitchen operations.
  • Passion for innovation and creating memorable dining experiences.
