Pastry Chef – Kenya: Job Summary

We are seeking a talented, creative, and highly disciplined Pastry Chef to lead our pastry and bakery operations in Kenya. This role is ideal for a culinary professional who combines artistic flair with strong technical expertise, consistency, and a passion for crafting exceptional desserts and baked goods. As the Pastry Chef, you will oversee the production of pastries, breads, cakes, plated desserts, and specialty items across all hotel outlets, ensuring that every creation meets the highest standards of taste, texture, and presentation.

You will work closely with the Executive Chef and F&B leadership to design innovative menus, seasonal offerings, and signature items that elevate the guest experience and reflect the brand’s identity. Your responsibilities will include supervising pastry staff, managing production schedules, maintaining inventory, and ensuring strict adherence to hygiene and food safety standards. You will also play a key role in training and mentoring junior pastry chefs, fostering a culture of creativity, precision, and continuous improvement.

This position requires a hands‑on leader who thrives in a fast‑paced environment, understands modern pastry techniques, and can balance creativity with operational efficiency. Your ability to deliver consistent quality, manage costs, and introduce new ideas will directly contribute to the hotel’s culinary reputation and commercial success.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead daily pastry and bakery production across all outlets
  • Develop creative dessert menus, specialty items, and seasonal offerings
  • Ensure consistent quality, taste, and presentation of all pastry products
  • Train, supervise, and schedule pastry team members
  • Maintain hygiene, sanitation, and food safety standards
  • Manage inventory, purchasing, and cost control for pastry ingredients
  • Oversee recipe development, portioning, and standardization
  • Collaborate with Executive Chef and F&B teams on events and promotions
  • Conduct regular quality checks and kitchen inspections
  • Handle guest feedback related to pastry and dessert offerings

Requirements

  • Minimum 4–6 years of pastry experience, including supervisory roles
  • Proven experience as Pastry Chef or Senior Pastry Chef in a 4–5 star hotel
  • Strong knowledge of pastry techniques, baking methods, and dessert trends
  • Excellent creativity, attention to detail, and artistic presentation skills
  • Strong leadership, communication, and team‑building abilities
  • Ability to work under pressure and maintain high standards
  • Culinary or pastry certification preferred
  • Experience in the Kenyan hospitality market is an advantage
