Kitchen stewardPosition Summary:

The Kitchen Steward plays a crucial role in ensuring the cleanliness, organization, and smooth operation of the kitchen. This position involves maintaining hygiene standards, assisting with basic food preparation, and ensuring that kitchen equipment and utensils are properly cleaned and stored. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, and committed to supporting the culinary team in a fast-paced environment.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Kitchen Hygiene & Sanitation:
    • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of all kitchen areas, including workstations, storage areas, and dishwashing stations.
    • Ensure compliance with food safety and hygiene regulations at all times.
    • Properly dispose of waste and manage recycling procedures.
  • Dishwashing & Equipment Maintenance:
    • Wash and sanitize kitchen utensils, cookware, and equipment efficiently.
    • Ensure all cleaned items are properly stored and ready for use.
    • Report any damaged or malfunctioning kitchen equipment to the supervisor.
  • Support for Kitchen Operations:
    • Assist chefs and kitchen staff with basic food preparation tasks when required.
    • Ensure that kitchen supplies, including cleaning materials and utensils, are stocked and replenished as needed.
    • Help with receiving and storing deliveries of kitchen supplies and ingredients.
  • Team Collaboration:
    • Work closely with the culinary team to maintain a smooth workflow in the kitchen.
    • Communicate effectively with colleagues to ensure timely completion of tasks.
    • Support kitchen staff during peak hours to maintain efficiency.

Requirements:

  • Education & Certification:
    • No formal culinary training required; basic knowledge of kitchen operations is preferred.
  • Experience:
    • Previous experience in a kitchen stewarding role or similar position is an advantage.
    • Familiarity with food safety and hygiene practices is highly valued.
  • Skills & Abilities:
    • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain cleanliness in a fast-paced environment.
    • Ability to work efficiently under pressure and manage multiple tasks.
    • Good communication skills and a team-oriented mindset.
    • Physical stamina to handle repetitive tasks and prolonged standing.
  • Working Conditions:
    • Must be comfortable working in a high-temperature kitchen environment.
    • Flexibility to work shifts, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
