The Assistant Restaurant Manager at Roasters Specialty Coffee House is a pivotal frontline leadership role that supports the Restaurant Manager in delivering operational excellence, consistent guest experiences, and a high-performing team culture. This role is ideal for a hospitality professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys coaching people, and has a keen eye for operational detail. You will act as the manager-on-shift, ensuring service standards are met across every touchpoint — from morning prep and mise en place through to peak service and close-down procedures. The role demands commercial awareness, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to translate strategy into daily practice. During pre-opening you will be hands-on in training, SOP roll-out, and systems setup; once open, you will lead shifts, support rostering and labour management, monitor service quality, and step into the Restaurant Manager’s duties when required. The ideal candidate balances warmth with discipline: they build teams through mentorship, deliver results through structured processes, and protect guest experience through attention to detail and swift problem resolution. Flexibility for varied shifts, weekend availability, and participation in training sessions and occasional community-facing events is required.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead shifts as the on-floor manager: coordinate team tasks, manage service flow, and ensure standards are consistently applied.
  • Support the Restaurant Manager in pre-opening activities: staff training, SOP documentation, floor layouts and operational checklists.
  • Conduct regular coaching, on-the-job feedback, and short training sessions to uplift service and product knowledge.
  • Assist with rostering and labour planning to meet service needs while controlling costs and maintaining coverage.
  • Monitor guest experience in real time; handle guest feedback and minor escalations promptly and professionally.
  • Oversee daily opening and closing checklists, cash-up procedures when required, and basic reconciliations.
  • Support inventory control routines, stock rotation, and basic ordering tasks; escalate discrepancies and trends to management.
  • Maintain health, safety and hygiene compliance on your shifts; ensure cleaning schedules and equipment checks are completed.
  • Help implement promotions, upsell strategies and local activation plans to drive sales and guest engagement.
  • Act as a communication bridge between floor staff and management, ensuring efficient handovers and clarity on priorities.

Requirements

  • 2–4 years’ supervisory or assistant management experience in cafés, casual dining, or fast-casual F&B operations; pre-opening exposure is an advantage.
  • Demonstrable experience leading shifts and coaching frontline teams; comfortable with performance feedback and development conversations.
  • Solid operational proficiency: POS familiarity, basic inventory processes, cash-handling experience, and familiarity with opening/closing routines.
  • Commercial mindset with an ability to follow and support budgetary and labour targets.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication and organisational skills; calm and decisive under pressure.
  • Strong customer-service orientation and a proactive approach to resolving guest issues.
  • Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, weekends and public holidays as required.
  • Positive attitude, high standards of personal presentation and a collaborative team-player mentality.
