Junior Barista — Roasters Specialty Coffee House

Introduction Summary
The Junior Barista role at Roasters is an entry-level but fast-learning position for someone passionate about coffee and hospitality. You will join a structured coffee program and support the bar team in delivering consistent, high-quality beverages while developing practical skills in espresso extraction, milk texturing, and customer service. This role is ideal for a motivated candidate who wants hands-on training, steady progression, and the chance to grow into more senior barista or supervisory roles within a specialty coffee brand.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare espresso-based drinks to standard under the guidance of senior baristas and the Head Barista.
  • Learn and follow recipe cards, grinder settings, dosing, tamping and milk-texture targets.
  • Support daily set-up and close-down routines including machine warm-up, backflushing, cleaning and basic maintenance.
  • Maintain an organised, hygienic bar area and follow food safety protocols.
  • Serve guests with a friendly, attentive approach; take orders accurately and ensure timely delivery.
  • Replenish supplies, rotate stock using FIFO, and assist with simple inventory checks.
  • Participate in training sessions, cuppings and practice shifts to develop technical and sensory skills.
  • Assist with basic food handling and packaging for takeaway orders when required.
  • Accept coaching, apply feedback fast, and escalate technical or guest issues to senior staff.

Requirements

  • Some café, hospitality or customer-service experience preferred but not mandatory.
  • Strong enthusiasm for specialty coffee and a willingness to learn technical skills.
  • Good communication and a positive, guest-focused attitude.
  • Reliable punctuality and flexibility to work mornings, weekends and public holidays.
  • Basic numeracy and comfort using a POS system are advantageous.
  • Physically able to stand for shifts, lift moderate weights and work in a busy environment.
