Our Story
Cipriani’s story began in Venice in 1931, when Giuseppe Cipriani opened a small bar off Piazza San Marco and named it Harry’s Bar, in tribute to a young patron who had helped him get his start. Within its walls, Giuseppe created two icons that would define Italian hospitality for generations: the Bellini cocktail and Beef Carpaccio. Over the following decades, Harry’s Bar became a gathering place for writers, artists, and dignitaries from around the world, drawn not only by the food but by the warmth and unmistakable ease of the service. Its significance to Venetian culture was formally recognized in 2001, when Italy’s Ministry of Cultural Heritage designated it a national landmark.
Giuseppe’s son, Arrigo Cipriani, took the helm of the family business and carried its philosophy far beyond Venice, building a global network of restaurants, hotels, and clubs that carry the Cipriani name to cities including New York, London, Monte Carlo, Dubai, and now Doha. Wherever a Cipriani address opens, it brings with it the same guiding principle that has defined the brand for over nine decades: genuine, attentive hospitality delivered with elegance and warmth, never formality for its own sake.
