Bar Manager — Summary

We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Bar Manager to lead our beverage program, build a high-performing bar team, and deliver exceptional guest experiences. This role combines creative menu development, operational oversight, and strong commercial accountability to drive revenue and maintain the highest standards of service and compliance.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead the beverage program: design cocktail menus, curate wine and beer lists, and update offerings seasonally.
  • Team leadership: recruit, train, schedule, and mentor bartenders and bar support staff; run regular training and tastings.
  • Operational management: oversee daily bar operations, opening/closing procedures, and shift handovers.
  • Inventory and cost control: manage ordering, stock rotation, par levels, and waste reduction to meet beverage cost targets.
  • Guest experience: ensure consistent, high-quality service; handle guest feedback and resolve service issues promptly.
  • Compliance and safety: enforce responsible alcohol service, maintain licensing requirements, and uphold health and safety standards.
  • Collaboration: work with culinary, events, and marketing teams on pairings, promotions, and private events.
  • Reporting: prepare weekly sales and inventory reports, analyze trends, and recommend revenue-driving initiatives.

Requirements

  • Experience: Minimum 3 years managing a bar or beverage program in a high-volume restaurant, hotel, or nightlife venue.
  • Knowledge: Deep understanding of spirits, cocktails, wine, beer, and beverage cost control.
  • Leadership: Proven ability to hire, train, and retain staff; strong coaching and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Commercial skills: Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and driving sales through promotions and upselling.
  • Technical: Familiarity with POS systems, inventory management tools, and basic reporting.
  • Certifications: Local responsible service of alcohol certification (e.g., TIPS or equivalent) preferred.
  • Availability: Flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays; ability to work long shifts on your feet.
  • Personal qualities: Organized, calm under pressure, creative, and guest-focused with excellent communication skills.
