As a Commis Pastry Chef at Ape Hospitality, you will be an essential part of our pastry team, assisting in the preparation, creation, and presentation of a variety of high-quality desserts and pastries. This role will give you the opportunity to learn and grow within the pastry kitchen, working under the guidance of our experienced pastry chefs. You will gain hands-on experience in creating a wide range of baked goods and desserts, from cakes and cookies to more sophisticated offerings, ensuring every dish meets our high standards of quality and presentation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the preparation, baking, and decoration of pastries, cakes, cookies, and other desserts according to our recipes and quality standards.
  • Follow precise recipes, instructions, and presentation standards set by the Head Pastry Chef and senior pastry team members.
  • Help with mise en place, ensuring all necessary ingredients are prepared and ready for use before service.
  • Ensure cleanliness and organization of the pastry section, keeping workstations tidy and adhering to hygiene standards.
  • Assist in the daily maintenance of pastry equipment, including mixers, ovens, and refrigeration, ensuring all are kept in working order.
  • Ensure all baked goods are stored, labeled, and rotated according to food safety guidelines.
  • Monitor inventory levels of pastry ingredients and report any shortages to the senior pastry team.
  • Support the creation and testing of new recipes, offering suggestions and feedback on flavor and presentation.
  • Collaborate with other kitchen staff to ensure smooth service and a timely delivery of pastries and desserts.
  • Assist in special requests, including customized cakes or pastries for special occasions and events.
  • Maintain high standards of food safety and hygiene, following local regulations and industry best practices.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience in a pastry kitchen, such as an apprenticeship or internship, is preferred but not essential.
  • A strong passion for pastry arts and a desire to develop your skills in this field.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, especially during busy service periods.
  • A keen eye for detail, with a strong commitment to maintaining quality and consistency.
  • Knowledge of food safety and hygiene standards.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work well within a team.
  • Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and eagerness to learn.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Creative mindset with a desire to contribute to the development of new pastry items.
