The Hostess will be the welcoming face of the restaurant, creating a warm, efficient arrival experience for guests of diverse nationalities. This role requires excellent interpersonal skills, polished presentation, and the ability to manage reservations, waitlists, and guest flow while supporting service teams during busy periods. Fluency in English is required; Arabic or other languages are an advantage.

Duties and Responsibilities

Guest Reception and Arrival Management

  • Greet guests promptly and courteously on arrival, offering a warm welcome and confirming reservations.
  • Manage the reservation book and walk‑in seating; maintain an organised waitlist and provide accurate wait‑time estimates.
  • Escort guests to their tables, present menus, and inform servers of guest preferences or special requests.

Reservation and Communication Duties

  • Answer incoming calls and reservation enquiries professionally; process bookings using the restaurant’s reservation system.
  • Coordinate with the front desk and concierge for guest arrivals, VIPs, and special requests.
  • Communicate guest notes, allergies, and special occasions to service and kitchen teams during pre‑shift briefings.

Floor Coordination and Service Support

  • Monitor dining room flow and table status; assist hosts, servers, and supervisors to optimise seating and turnover.
  • Support servers during peak service by clearing menus, delivering water, and assisting with simple service tasks as required.
  • Maintain the hostess station, reservation logs, menus, and presentation standards.

Guest Relations and Problem Resolution

  • Respond to guest enquiries and minor concerns with tact and efficiency; escalate issues to supervisors when necessary.
  • Provide local information and recommendations for dining, transport, and hotel services in a friendly, helpful manner.
  • Record guest feedback and pass relevant information to management for follow‑up.

Standards and Safety

  • Uphold Taj grooming, uniform, and service standards at all times.
  • Adhere to health, safety, and hygiene protocols; ensure public areas are clean, safe, and welcoming.
  • Participate in training, briefings, and team meetings to maintain service consistency.

Requirements

Experience and Qualifications

  • Minimum 6 months to 2 years experience in a hostess, host, or front‑of‑house role at a hotel or busy restaurant is preferred.
  • Hospitality or customer service training is an advantage but not mandatory.

Skills and Competencies

  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills with a friendly, composed demeanour.
  • Strong organisational ability and attention to detail; comfortable managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Basic computer literacy and experience with reservation systems or POS platforms is preferred.
  • Good numerical accuracy for handling bookings and table counts.

Language and Cultural Fit

  • Fluent English required; conversational Arabic or additional languages are advantageous.
  • Comfortable working in a multicultural environment and respectful of local customs and guest expectations.

Personal Attributes

  • Professional presentation, punctuality, and a positive, service‑oriented attitude.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform light physical tasks such as guiding guests and carrying menus.
  • Flexible availability including evenings, weekends, and public holidays.

Desirable

  • Experience in luxury or international hotel dining outlets and familiarity with VIP handling and special events.
